If you’re reading The Startup, chances are good you are fueled by ideas. You’ve also got a pretty good chance of being a change agent working to better the world. So, naturally you’re going to need at least one website at some point in your life.
With all the tools and tech available to us today, it feels like it should be pretty easy to build yourself a website. This is certainly what the DIY web building tools want you to believe. A website makes it real — as Martin Scorsese advocates in this slick ad for Squarespace. This ad also ironically shows how difficult (and expensive) it can be to get the attention of the masses.
But the high-level inspo approach is a bit misleading. It’s an aspirational stance on the power of a website to reach your audience — but it doesn’t dig any deeper into the deeper work you must do BEFORE you ever open up a web building tool.
It’s the pre-requisite work that shows you what you to actually put ON your website. And HOW to make your website work to support your business.
